In construction of buildings and streets, portable cement mixers play a vital role in mixing the concrete for the foundations. The technology of today has changed a lot since the process was first used by the Egyptians. The cement and concrete mixers of today look much different than their earlier versions, too. Even though we imagine large trucks when we think about cement mixers, many times they are smaller and portable.
The trucks used to mix cement are usually called cement mixer trucks or concrete mixer trucks. The terms are used interchangeably, even though cement and concrete are not the same thing. Cement mixers mix water, gravel, sand and chemicals to make cement, used to make roads and sidewalks.
These types of mixers are quite convenient to use. If you have ever mixed cement or concrete by hand in a wheelbarrow, you know the work involved in getting the mixture right, and making sure the consistency is appropriate. It takes a long time to hand-mix cement, and the mixture is not as precise as from a truck that does the same job on a larger scale. Wheelbarrows filled with cement are also very heavy to move by hand to the construction site, and trucks take it quickly where it is needed. Trucks are more efficient and they save time in the mixing process, by doing it on a larger scale.
In the late 1800's, people started using cement to make roads, and this was necessitated by the rise in he popularity of motorized vehicles. In the 1920's, cars became more often seen, and so did portable cement mixers. In the 1970's, environmentalists raised concerns about cement mixers, and some modifications were made, to make the mixers more environmentally friendly. The cement mixers of today emit less toxins, use materials that are safer, are resistant to skidding, and are more weather resistant. The large trucks also support the transportation of cement to the places where it is needed.
Ninety percent of the roads in America today are made with cement. The trucks that mix the cement are available, and are usually purchased or leased by construction companies and contractors. Government departments of transportation also purchase some trucks for their use. Trucks are sold new and used, online and in truck auctions.
When a cement truck mixes the cement, it uses a revolving drum to mix the components properly. From there, it is moved to a portable cement mixer, and to the exact part of the job site, before it hardens. When using concrete as the foundation for a garage, shed or home, or to fix a sidewalk or building, the correct cement mixture needs to be used, to do the job correctly.
A mobile cement mixer makes batches of concrete for several areas like sidewalks. You can control the amount of concrete you need by using a mobile mixer. You don't need to use extra water to mix cement in mobile concrete mixers. An immobile cement mixer is affixed in a central area where it will mix concrete. These are used for pre-casting concrete in projects that are too remote for large trucks to access. Portable cement mixers can take the concrete to the area where it is needed.
