Today's world of concrete or cement mixing has evolved from the days when the Egyptians would mix clay and bake it in heated ovens for some time to produce the bricks. Today cement is processed using what we we have come to know as cement mixers which have a rotating drum that mixes the different components of cement. The most common idea we have of cement mixers is the huge trucks with the rotating cement drum at the back which continuously mixes the cement even when the truck is moving.
Cement mixer trucks are also widely referred to as concrete mixer trucks. These trucks use technology that works to combine cement, sand and/or gravel and water to form a mixture of concrete. This mixture is then rotated and processed in a revolving drum. In previous centuries before the cement trucks came to being, this process was conducted bu hand and the mixture was transported by wheelbarrow. This took a long time to complete a simply concrete project. Today, we have come a long way from the hand-mixed cement mixers and within the construction industry, concrete or cement mixers are now a much better option.
Cement mixer trucks are very convenient. They can ferry workers and at the same time mix and distribute concrete in exactly the best way and pour it onto the exactly the spot where is is needed. Cement trucks have to be reliable and their mechanical structure has to be sound. That is why they are manufactered by the same auto giants that are world-renowned for their quality cars. Companies such as Volvo and Ford, and others such as Kenworth all manufacter cement mixer trucks that go a long way. One of the ways to find the exact cement mixer truck that works for you is to check with the auto manufacter direcly and see whether they have a truck division.
Cement mixer trucks work while in motion. This is in order to save time. While the truck is traveling to its construction site the concrete is being processed and mixed at the same time. Dry materials and water and the concrete mix are added and these then go through the combining process all while the truck is in transport. Technological advancements have produced trucks that can be inputed with ready mixed concrete which takes less time to process.
Thecement remains in a liquid state throughout the drum revolution. The interior of the drum is then oufitted with a spiral blade that spins and combines the materials. It has an interesting rotation where when it rotates in one direction it mixes the concrete or cement but when it rotates in the other direction the concrete is ejected out of the drum.
Cement mixer trucks come in many styles, colors and designs. To save money, many contractors buy or lease cement mixer trucks. If the project is short-term, then it is more economical to rent rather than purchase but if the project is protracted then purchasing is the way to go.
